The Department of Applied Behavioral Science (formerly Human Development and Family Life) has set aside the dates of October 15 through Friday, October 26 for advising majors and prospective majors. During this period, an ABS faculty member should be available Monday through Thursday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m. and Friday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Students may come to the Department office, 4001 Dole, to see which faculty member(s) are advising and then proceed to their offices or they may call ahead to be certain an advisor will be available when they arrive (864-4840). Some of these (and other) advisors will also have advising sign-up sheets on their office doors where students may proceed to sign-up for specific appointment times. Please be sure to bring your ARTS Form to your advising appointment.
Students wishing to enroll for a practicum for the Early Childhood Education and Intervention specialty area(ABS 675, 676, 677, 678) for Spring 2008 must request enrollment by attending one of two available practicum sign-up meetings. The meetings will be held in the Dole 4th floor atrium at 5:30 p.m. Monday, October 15 and 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 16. Students enrolling in a practicum are required to work in the classroom from 7:30 – 11:30 a.m. or 1:45 – 5:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. Prior to attending the practicum sign-up meetings, students should review the timetable and draft a schedule that will accommodate practicum hours. Please be aware that practicum spots are limited. We may not be able to accommodate late requests for a practicum.
If you are a delinquency and juvenile justice major, you need to make an appointment for advising with Professor Jan Sheldon. She will have a sign up sheet on her office door – 4013 Dole.
Freshmen and Sophomores will have an advising hold placed on their enrollment. A majority of freshmen students will be advised at the University Advising Center (UAC), as well as all undecided sophomores. Once you have been advised in ABS, we can remove your hold.
Students who have 90 or more hours at the end of this semester and who have not declared a major, and new students whose initial KU term is Fall 2007 who have 60 or more hours at the end of this semester and who have not declared a major will have a hold placed on their enrollment as well.
Students who do not yet meet the entrance requirements to be accepted into the College major of his/her choice or who intend to apply to another KU professional school, but are not yet eligible, will need to meet with an advisor in that major department or school. The department or school advisor will review these students’ academic records and fill out a Non-Declared Major Hold Removal Request form. Advisors and students may access the form at the following link: http://www.ku.edu/~clasus/forms/majorhold.doc
Please note that you will need to clear all holds before you will be able to enroll.
